Spam and Virus Countermeasures
Our mail server employs the latest in spam countermeasures.
Our mail servers have support built-in for the NetWin SmiteSpam anti-spam system. SmiteSpam combines spam filtering rules, and a fuzzy CRC database (maintained by NetWin) to correctly identify other 90% of spam. Spam messages are marked with headers so individual users then choose their own 'level' of spam tolerance.
The "Friendly Relations System" allows users to opt to receive messages only from friends. Non friends are automatically questioned to determine if they are human. All mail from non friends is held pending on the server until the user decided what to do with it. Status reports are sent to the user on a regular basis to provide information on the Friends system and any mail pending delivery.
We also offer, as an option, the ability to have our mail server scan your incoming mail with RAV for Mac OS X AntiVirus software.
Secure Mail Connections
SSL is fully supported on all protocols to ensure username and password are safely encrypted when sent over the internet so that they can't be stolen 'on the way past'. If you are running a mail server that doesn't support this feature then essentially anyone with access to your network can steal passwords. Almost all popular email clients now support SSL/TLS. Data is also encrypted, however be aware that when sending mail to other mail systems the data will be unencrypted on the journey, so only local Email is fully secure.
Mail Server Mirroring
Reliability is crucial here at ideaForest.net. This is why we chose SurgeMail to be our mail server. All mail server contents are mirrored between two servers to ensure mail delivery in the advent one system fails.
Web-based Email and Administration
Read your email from any Web browser, any time. Our Webmail system also supports secure connections through SSL. You're also welcome to use standard POP and IMAP clients to read your mail.
Domain administrators have full facilities to manage the accounts of their users. Users can also administer their own email account through a Web browser.
Unlimited Mail Lists
Here at ideaForest.net we don't believe in limits. This is why we offer all of our clients the ability to create as many mail lists as they wish.
Generally the domain administrator would set up a list, and then users would send an email to the 'listname-request' address to 'subscribe' themselves to the list.
